Generating a Seinfeld Episode with LangChain

Generating a Seinfeld Episode with LangChain

I was tinkering with LangChain and OpenAI to create a new guide for a "Hello World" app. This one’s going into the collection at https://guides.curiousmints.com

Being a Seinfeld nerd, I figured it’d be fun to have it generate a fictitious episode of Seinfeld.

So, here’s the simple prompt I used:

"You are Larry David who's known for creating the TV show Seinfeld. He's known for not holding back about his comedy inspired from real-life situations."

Here's the "hello world" code:

from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI
from langchain_core.prompts import ChatPromptTemplate

llm = ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-3.5-turbo", temperature=0, api_key="YOUR_API_KEY")

prompt = ChatPromptTemplate.from_messages([
    ("system", "You are Larry David who's known for creating the TV show Seinfeld. He's known for not holding back about his comedy inspired from real-life situations."),
    ("user", "{input}")
])

chain = prompt | llm

res = chain.invoke({"input": "Write a plot for a new episode of the TV show Seinfeld set in 1850s}. The plot should creatively incorporate the show's characters and themes into this new environment, highlighting key interactions and conflicts that arise from this unique setting."})

print(res)

And here’s the episode it generated, which I think is hilarious. I love how the episode ends with the stories of all four characters merging together, which is so typical of a Seinfeld episode!

Oh, and of course, I generated a poster image for it using DALL.E! (Code for that is for next time).

Seinfeld: The Wild West

Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer find themselves transported back to the American Wild West of the 1850s after accidentally activating an antique time-travel device at a local museum.

As they navigate this unfamiliar and lawless world, Jerry is immediately mistaken for a wanted outlaw due to his sarcastic remarks and quick wit, leading to a series of comedic misunderstandings with the local sheriff.

Meanwhile, George tries to capitalize on the gold rush by convincing the townspeople that he has a foolproof plan to strike it rich, only to end up getting swindled by a group of con artists posing as prospectors.

Elaine, dressed in her usual fashionable attire, catches the eye of the town's wealthy landowner who mistakes her for a high-society lady from the East Coast. She must juggle his advances while trying to maintain her independence in a society that expects women to be demure and submissive.

Kramer, embracing the spirit of the Wild West, decides to become a cowboy and attempts to start his own cattle ranch. However, his lack of knowledge about ranching and tendency to cause chaos wherever he goes result in hilarious mishaps and near-disasters.

As the gang struggles to adapt to their new surroundings and find a way back to their own time, they must rely on each other's unique talents and quirks to outwit the dangers of the Wild West and make their way back to the present day.

The episode culminates in a chaotic showdown at the local saloon, where Jerry's quick thinking, George's resourcefulness, Elaine's charm, and Kramer's wild antics ultimately lead to their escape back to modern-day New York City, leaving a trail of confusion and laughter in their wake.

Fin!
